TIME TO HEAL THROUGH SOBRIETY

“Maybe it’s time to heal, maybe it’s time to try/Maybe it’s time to deal with all the pieces in my life.” Nikki Sixx as sung in the Artists for Recovery project.

There comes a time when rather than shaming ourselves for the pitfalls that substance abuse has brought in our past, we need to forgive ourselves, to heal and be ok with remembering and even giving thanks for the events that made us who we are.

Recognizing the pains, suffering, losses and past wounds caused by ones own substance abuses is part of the positive path to recovery. Taking the next step to give thanks for coming away from that path to destruction and choosing the path of life is part of joyful journey to more positive being. Keeping that as a life mantra can be the next step to help sustain recovery. Perhaps, ‘I decided to choose life’ as Anthony Hopkins recently proclaimed to the world after 45 years, or ‘I decided to start showing up for life’. You choose yours.

What might be some of the wounds of abuse you might want to pay tribute to and remember as part of your path? Physical and mental scars, dental, eyesight, kidney and liver health, gut health, confidence vs fear, loss of relationships & family, lack of integrity/reputation, poor sleep quality, obesity or anorexia, lack of stamina, skin tone, sadness or the ultimate loss of mortality of someone you have loved.

It’s a sad list and one to be proud of with a sense of persistent vallor that says; I made it through that war, made my sacrifices and came out alive. Today is a new day, one for new beginnings to be a better person for yourself and the rest of the world. You are needed.
